QuickNote — Privacy Policy & Terms of Use

This Privacy Policy and Terms of Use (“Policy”) explain how the QuickNote — Voice & Text Notes Chrome Extension (“QuickNote”, “the Extension”, “we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects information when you use the Extension. By installing, signing in to, or otherwise using QuickNote, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Extension.

  1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information stored on our servers. To provide account-based features (sign in, subscription status, and note limits), we collect and store:

Email address: used as your account identifier and to send you password-reset verification codes (OTPs).
Password: never stored in plain text. It is one-way hashed with bcrypt before storage. We cannot see or recover your original password.
Account metadata: your active note count, premium/subscription status, and account creation date, used solely to enforce the free-plan note limit and unlock premium features.
Password-reset data: a temporary one-time code (OTP), its expiry time, and counters used to limit requests and incorrect attempts. It is used only during a password reset.

1.2 Information stored only on your device. The text of your notes (what you type or speak), formatting, tags, pinned status, timestamps, PIN lock settings, and session data are stored only in your browser using Chrome’s chrome.storage.local. This data is not transmitted to or stored on our servers.

1.3 Information we do not collect. We do not collect your note content, browsing history, contacts, location, payment card details, or audio recordings. The Extension does not use advertising trackers or analytics tools, and it does not read web pages in the background.

  1. Where Your Notes Are Stored
    Notes are saved in Chrome’s local storage on your device, under your QuickNote account ID. They are not synced to other devices or browsers.
    Logging in to QuickNote on another browser or device will not show notes created on this one. You can use the built-in Export feature (.TXT, .MD, or .JSON) to back up or move your notes.
    We cannot view, back up, or recover your notes because they never pass through our servers.
    Clearing your browser data or uninstalling the Extension permanently deletes locally stored notes.
  2. Optional Features That Run On Your Device
    PIN lock: If you enable it, your 4-digit PIN is stored only on your device as a salted one-way hash (PBKDF2) and is never sent to our servers. The PIN lock restricts access to the QuickNote screen but does not encrypt your notes. Using “Forgot PIN” removes the lock and signs you out.
    Save to QuickNote (right-click): When you choose this option on selected text, the selected text, page title, page URL, and time are saved into your local notes. This happens only when you use the option.
    Rich text, tags, search, and pinning: These run entirely on your device.
    Export: Files you export are created on your device and are not sent to us.
    Voice input: Speech is converted to text using your browser’s built-in speech recognition. Depending on your browser, audio may be processed by the browser vendor (for example, Google) under that vendor’s own privacy policy. QuickNote does not receive or store your audio.
  3. Permissions Used by the Extension:
    storage: to save your notes, session, and settings on your device.
    contextMenus: to provide the “Save to QuickNote” right-click option.
    Host access to our server (mehndidesign.fun): to sign you in, verify your subscription status, and enforce the free-plan note limit.
  4. Third-Party Services We Use

We share limited data with the following providers, only to perform the function described:

Brevo (Sendinblue): delivers the OTP email sent during password reset. Your email address and the OTP are shared with Brevo for this sole purpose.
Dodo Payments: our third-party payment processor for premium subscriptions. Payment information is entered on and handled by Dodo Payments under its own privacy policy and terms. We do not collect, see, or store your card or banking details. Dodo Payments informs our server of your subscription status so that premium access can be activated or deactivated.

Hostinger provides the web hosting and database where our account data is stored.

We do not control these third parties and are not responsible for their practices, services, or outages. Please read their policies.

  1. Subscription Plans & Pricing
    Free Plan: up to 10 active notes per account, at no cost. Deleting a note frees up space within this limit. Restoring a deleted note counts against the limit again.
    Premium Plan: removes the 10-note limit and allows unlimited notes. Billed at $2.99 USD per month via our payment processor, Dodo Payments.
    Subscriptions renew monthly until cancelled. You may cancel at any time using the subscription management link provided by Dodo Payments at purchase or in your confirmation email. After cancellation, premium access continues until the end of the current billing period.
    Applicable taxes, if any, may be added at checkout by the payment processor.
    All payments are processed exclusively by Dodo Payments. QuickNote does not store, process, or have access to your card or banking details.
  2. How We Use Your Information
    To create your account, authenticate you, and maintain your signed-in session.
    To enforce the free-plan note limit and unlock unlimited notes for premium subscribers.
    To send password-reset OTP codes when you request them.
    To verify and update your premium subscription status.
    To protect the service against abuse, fraud, and unauthorized access.

We do not sell, rent, or share your email address or any other personal information with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

  1. Legal Basis and Consent

We process your information to provide the service you requested, to perform our agreement with you under this Policy, and, where required, based on your consent, which you give by accepting this Policy when you first use the Extension. You may withdraw consent at any time by stopping use of the Extension and requesting deletion of your account (see Section 10).

  1. Data Retention
    Account data (email, password hash, note count, subscription status) is kept for as long as your account exists.
    Password-reset data is temporary and is cleared once used or expired.
    Note content stays on your device until you delete it, clear your browser data, or uninstall the Extension.
    After you request account deletion, we will delete your account data within a reasonable period, except where limited information must be retained to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or prevent fraud.
  2. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights or to request deletion of your account, email us at the address in Section 18. We will respond within a reasonable time and may need to verify your identity first. You can delete your local notes at any time from within the Extension.

  1. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect account data, including bcrypt password hashing, prepared database queries, server-side input validation, restricted access to sensitive configuration files, verified payment webhook signatures, and rate limiting on password-reset requests (a maximum of 3 OTP requests per 24-hour period, with a limit on incorrect attempts per OTP). However, no method of storage or transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Notes on your device are not encrypted and are protected only by your device and browser profile security.

  1. International Data Transfers

Our servers and service providers may be located in countries other than your own. By using the Extension, you understand that your account information may be processed and stored in those locations.

  1. Your Responsibilities
    Keep your QuickNote email and password confidential, and your PIN if you enable the PIN lock.
    Back up important notes yourself, for example with the Export feature, since we do not keep server-side backups of note content.
    Use the Extension lawfully. Do not attempt to disrupt the service, abuse it, or gain unauthorized access to it or to other users’ accounts.
  2. Disclaimer of Warranties

QuickNote is provided on an “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, reliability, or non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the Extension will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that notes, account data, or subscription data will not be lost, corrupted, or delayed.

  1. User Responsibility, Release, and Limitation of Liability

You use QuickNote entirely at your own risk. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the owner, developer(s), and operator(s) of QuickNote (together, the “Owner”) shall have no responsibility or liability whatsoever for any problem, loss, damage, or dispute of any kind, however small or large, arising out of or related to the Extension, its website or server, or any related service. This includes, without limitation:

any payment, billing, subscription, renewal, cancellation, refund, chargeback, taxes, currency conversion, or failed or duplicate transaction, all of which are handled by the third-party payment processor;
any loss, deletion, corruption, exposure, or unavailability of notes or other data, including loss caused by clearing browser data, uninstalling the Extension, device loss, browser or storage failures, or forgetting your PIN or password;
any unauthorized access to your device, browser, account, or notes, including access resulting from a weak or shared password or PIN;
any data breach, hacking, malware, or security incident affecting you, your device, our servers, or any third-party provider;
any outage, delay, bug, error, or interruption of the Extension, our servers, or third-party services (Brevo, Dodo Payments, Hostinger, Google, or others);
any reliance on the Extension for important, sensitive, legal, medical, financial, or business information; and
any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, including loss of data, profits, or payments already made, even if the Owner was advised of the possibility of such damages.

All such responsibility rests solely with you, the user. By using the Extension, you agree to release and hold harmless the Owner from any claim, demand, loss, or liability arising from your use of the Extension. You agree to bear all consequences of your use, including keeping your own backups and credentials safe. Nothing in this Policy excludes any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

15A. Indemnification and Compliance With Local Laws

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Owner from and against any claims, losses, damages, liabilities, fines, penalties, taxes, legal fees, and expenses of any kind, in any country, that arise out of or relate to: (a) your use or misuse of the Extension; (b) your breach of this Policy; (c) your violation of any law or regulation; or (d) any content or information you store, save, or export using the Extension.

Use in your country. The Extension is offered without any promise that it complies with the laws of every country. You are solely responsible for making sure that your use of the Extension is lawful where you live or use it. If it is not lawful for you, you must not use it. The Owner shall not be liable for any fine, penalty, legal action, or regulatory claim imposed by any government, authority, or court in any country arising from your use of the Extension.

Your content. You are solely responsible for the notes and content you create or save. Do not use the Extension to store unlawful, infringing, or harmful content.

  1. Refunds, Termination, and Children’s Privacy

Refunds. Subscription charges are generally non-refundable, except where required by applicable law or at the Owner’s sole discretion. Refund requests may also be subject to Dodo Payments’ own refund policy.

Termination. We may suspend or terminate access to accounts that violate this Policy or misuse the service, and we may change, suspend, or discontinue the Extension or any feature at any time. You may stop using the Extension and request deletion of your account at any time.

Children’s privacy. QuickNote is not directed at, and is not intended for, children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

  1. Changes to This Policy, Governing Law, and Disputes

Changes. We may update this Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above, and for material changes, the Extension may ask you to review and accept the updated Policy. Continued use after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.

Governing law. This Policy and any dispute arising from your use of QuickNote are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions, and subject to any mandatory consumer protection rights you have in your country of residence. Any dispute shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of India.
