Theme Switcher (“the Extension”) is a Google Chrome browser extension developed by Samrat Kushwaha. This Privacy Policy explains what information the Extension does and does not collect, and how it works.
We built Theme Switcher to respect your privacy completely. In short: we do not collect, store, transmit, sell, or share any of your personal data, browsing history, or any other information — ever.
1. Information We Collect
We collect nothing. Theme Switcher does not collect, log, track, or transmit any personal information, browsing activity, page content, or usage data of any kind.
Specifically, the Extension does not:
- Track the websites you visit
- Read, store, or transmit the content of any webpage
- Collect analytics, telemetry, or usage statistics
- Use cookies, pixels, or any tracking technology
- Connect to any external server or third-party API
- Sell or share any data with advertisers or third parties
2. How Your Settings Are Stored
Theme Switcher lets you customize Dark Mode, Light Mode, brightness, and per-element theme settings (background, text, navigation bar, cards). These preferences are saved using Google Chrome’s built-in chrome.storage.local API.
This means:
- Your settings are stored only on your own device, inside your local Chrome browser profile.
- Your settings are never uploaded, synced to a server, or made accessible to us or anyone else.
- If you uninstall the Extension, these locally stored settings are automatically removed.
3. Permissions We Use — and Why
Chrome requires extensions to declare permissions upfront. Here is exactly what Theme Switcher requests and why:

scripting | To apply your chosen theme styles to the webpage you are viewing, including pages that were already open before the extension was installed or updated. |
host_permissions (<all_urls>) | To allow the Extension to apply your chosen Dark/Light theme on any website you choose to visit. This access is used exclusively to inject visual CSS styling (colors, brightness) — it is never used to read, log, or transmit page content. |
No permission is used for advertising, analytics, or any purpose beyond applying your chosen visual theme to a webpage.
4. Third-Party Sharing
We do not share any data with third parties, because we do not collect any data in the first place. Theme Switcher makes no network requests to any external server, API, or analytics provider.
5. Children’s Privacy
Theme Switcher does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Since the Extension collects no data at all, this applies equally to users of all ages.
6. Data Security
Because all settings remain locally on your device and are never transmitted anywhere, there is no remote database or server that could be breached. Your data security is governed by your own device’s and Google Chrome’s built-in security.
7. Changes to This Policy
If this Privacy Policy is updated in the future, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated “Last Updated” date. Continued use of the Extension after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
